We recently made an impressive company visit to the New Lock in Terneuzen, where Vydraulics plays a key role in the realization of this monumental project. During our visit, we were given a unique behind-the-scenes tour of the construction, including a visit to a dry lock cellar 20 metres underground and the bridge cellar of one of the bascule bridges.
Although much of our work remains unseen – underwater, beneath the road, or in basements – it was fascinating to witness the engineering and complexity firsthand. Vydraulics is proud of its contributions. We began by supplying the bridge cylinders, followed by the cylinders for the lock gates and levellers, along with the associated hydraulic systems, manifolds, and complete piping. Over the past two years, we’ve been actively connecting these systems on site as the construction has progressed. In the coming period, the final details will be completed.
Inspired by the locks of the Panama Canal, the New Lock will soon enable larger vessels to pass between the Western Scheldt and the Port of Ghent. This impressive structure will be festively inaugurated by King Willem-Alexander and King Philip on 11 October 2024. We are proud to be building, both figuratively and literally, the connection between the Netherlands and Belgium!
